We begin with a conversation.

Advocacy & systems navigation

Prepare for appointments and communicate your needs with confidence.

The cost of not knowing falls hardest on the households with the least margin.

What we do

  • Explain how a process actually works, and what the decision points are
  • Support communication with agencies and providers
  • Prepare households for appointments — what will be asked, what to bring
  • Connect households to the right agency the first time
  • Coordinate between providers when several are involved
  • Help identify next steps after a decision, including how an appeal works

Who this support is for

Advocacy can help someone prepare for a process they do not understand or communicate a concern more clearly. The question might involve an agency appointment, an application, a notice or a decision that needs an explanation.

The participant's own voice should guide the work. We discuss what they want to say, what they need to understand and whether ApexRise is the appropriate organization to help. Some questions require an attorney or another specialist from the start.

Before an appointment

Preparation can include writing down the purpose of the meeting, questions to ask and the documents the agency has requested. We can discuss how to ask for interpretation and how to confirm the arrangements.

It also helps to identify what the agency can decide and what it cannot. The goal is to leave knowing the decision, the next step and whom to contact if something remains unclear.

Communication and follow-through

Support may involve helping a participant organize information, prepare a message or communicate with another provider when the correct permission is in place. Whether someone can attend an appointment depends on the agency, the service agreement and availability.

Afterward, record what was agreed and any deadline. If the answer is unclear, ask for clarification. We do not promise that an agency will change a decision or that an advocate can act in place of the participant.

When a notice needs legal advice

A deadline on a letter deserves prompt attention. Keep the letter and envelope and seek an explanation from the agency or a qualified legal service. Do not assume that asking for help pauses a deadline.

For Minnesota rental questions, HOME Line offers free tenant advice. Immigration, court proceedings and legal appeals need appropriate qualified advice. ApexRise can discuss help finding that route, while legal decisions and representation remain with legal professionals.

Availability, funding and costs

Before services begin, confirm the scope, who will provide it, the funding arrangement and any cost to the household. Contacting ApexRise does not confirm eligibility or enrollment in a publicly funded program. The responsible agency may require an eligibility decision, an authorized referral and confirmation of capacity.

Counties and organizations can review our partnership approach. Related support includes case management and housing support.

Questions people ask

Can someone attend my appointment with me?
Ask about that specific appointment. Availability, the agency's rules, required permission and the agreed service scope determine what is possible.
Can ApexRise contact an agency for me?
We can discuss communication support. Any contact requires the appropriate permission and must follow the receiving agency's process.
Can you help if I have received a denial?
We can discuss understanding the notice and finding the appropriate next step. Check the stated deadline promptly and seek legal advice if needed.
Is advocacy the same as legal representation?
No. ApexRise does not provide legal advice or represent people in legal proceedings. Legal questions should go to a qualified legal service.
